Lulo is a citrus fruit which grows on the tree of the same name and is a combination of both lime and rhubarb. It is also known as naranjilla. It grows on the subtropical plant from South Western America and is also cultivated in many regions of the Ecuador, Panama, and Colombia. Side Effects of Eating Too Many Lulos( Naranjilla) Fruit
(1) Too Much Dietary Fiber Is Bad For Stomach
Consuming lulo fruit on a regular and moderate basis has been found to be very beneficial for our stomach and aids in keeping our digestive system healthy.
This benefit of lulo fruit is mainly due to the presence of dietary fibers in them. The dietary fibers present in the naranjilla fruit acts as a natural laxative which means, it improves bowel movement and ensures smooth elimination of stool from our system. This provides relief from constipation and reduces the risk of various gastrointestinal problems like abdominal pain, irritable bowel syndrome, bloating, gas, flatulence etc.
Although dietary fibers are good for our stomach, it is advisable to eat lulo in moderation.
This is because excessive intake of dietary fibers is bad for our digestive health and can give rise to problems like intestinal gas, intestinal blockage, poor absorption of nutrients etc.

Although lulo fruit is good for our us, not all of us can enjoy these benefits.
This is because some individuals might be allergic to lulo fruit and these individuals should avoid consuming naranjilla as much as possible. This is to avoid the risk of allergic reactions caused by the lulo fruit. Some common allergic reactions caused by the lulo fruit are itching, burning sensation in the mouth, swelling of mouth, tongue, and lips etc.
Lulo fruit belongs to nightshade family and if you are allergic to other food items of the nightshade family such as eggplant, tomatoes etc. then you are more likely to be allergic to be allergic to lulo fruit.
(4) May Cause Hypotension
Regular and moderate consumption of lulo fruit has been found to be very beneficial for providing relief from high blood pressure or hypertension, which is a common health problem that affects millions of people around the world and is a leading cause of various cardiovascular problems such as heart attack, heart stroke, irregular heartbeat and so on.

Although naranjilla is good for regulating blood pressure, it is advisable to consume them in moderation. This is because too much potassium in our system can give lower our blood pressure to a very low level giving rise to hypotension, which is characterized by the symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, nausea, depression, blurry vision etc.
In addition to this, if you are suffering from hypertension and already taking medication for the same, then it is advisable to consume lulo fruit in moderation as too much potassium may interfere with the medication and may worsen the situation.
(5) May Increase The Risk of Hypoglycemia
Consuming naranjilla fruit on a regular and moderate basis has been found to be very beneficial for the individuals suffering from diabetes and for those who are at the risk of developing diabetes.
This benefit of lulo fruit is mainly because of its low glycemic index. Glycemic index of a food item determines the rate at which that particular food item releases sugar into the bloodstream. Lower the glycemic index of a food, and lower is the rate at which it releases sugar into the bloodstream.
Glycemic index of a lulo fruit is low which means it doesn’t release sugar into the bloodstream at a high rate, and prevents a sudden spike in the blood sugar level, and thus helps in managing diabetes.
Additionally, the dietary fibers present in the lulo fruit reduces the rate at which sugar gets absorbed into the bloodstream and thus helps in managing diabetes.
Although lulo fruit is effective against diabetes, it is advisable to consume this fruit in moderate quantity. This is because consuming too many naranjilla fruits may lower our blood sugar to an abnormally low level giving rise to hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia is a condition in which our blood sugar drops down to an abnormally low level and is characterized by the symptoms such as excessive hunger, excessive sweating, fainting, nausea, vomiting etc.
And, if you are a diabetic patient and already taking medication for the same then eating too many naranjilla fruit may interfere with the medication, and for this reason, diabetic patients are advised to eat lulo fruit in moderation and as per doctor’s recommendation.

Pregnancy is an important stage in every woman’s life and at this stage, it becomes very important for the woman to make sure that she is eating a diet full of essential nutrients and lulo fruit can help doing the same. This is because during pregnancy what women eat and drinks not only determines her health but also the health and fitness of the baby developing in her womb.
This benefit of naranjilla fruit is mainly due to the presence of various nutrients like vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, dietary fibers, phytonutrients, and polyphenols etc. in them.
