Beauty Benefits of Tomatoes For Skin

 

(1) Helps In Treating Acne

Acne is a major skin problem that affects millions of people all over the world.

Exact cause of acne is unknown but it said to be caused and get worsened by the clogging of our skin pores by dirt, impurities, pollutants, and excessive oil etc.

Consuming tomatoes on a regular basis and as well as their topical application has been found to be very effective in treating acne.

This benefit is mainly because of the ability of tomatoes to remove toxins and other impurities from our system.

Tomatoes is astringent in nature which means it can absorb the excessive oil from our skin, and thus helps in treating acne.

The Salicylic acid present in the tomatoes also plays a significant role in acne treatment because of its ability to dry up acne.

For using tomatoes for acne treatment, mash a ripe tomato and evenly spread the pulp so obtained on your affected skin area. Let it air dry for 20 to 30 minutes, and then rinse off with lukewarm water. Doing the same at least 2 to 3 times a day on a regular basis will not provide relief from acne and pimples, but will also make your skin soft and supple.

Alternatively, you can mix equal proportion of tomato juice and cucumber juice together, and apply the same on the affected area using a cotton dab.  Let the same dry on your skin on its own, and rinse off with lukewarm water. This remedy is very effective not only in treating acne, but also for fading the scars given by the acne.

(2) Shrinks Large Skin Pores 

Tomatoes has been found to be very effective in shrinking the large open pores of our skin, and this benefit is nothing less than a boon to our skin.

This is because, when our skin pores are large and open, it invites dirt, pollutants, oily particles etc. to settle in and clog them. And when our skin pores get clogged, it give rise to skin problems like acne, pimples etc.

Tomato is astringent in nature which means it is very effective in tighening our skin, and this is what helps in shrinking large skin pores.

For this, take one tablespoon of tomato juice in a bowl and add few drops of lemon juice to it.  Now rinse your face with clean water, and apply the mixture on your face ( where you have large pores) using a cotton dab. Let the mixture air dry for 15 minutes, and then rinse it off with cold water, and pat dry with a soft and clean towel.

Following this remedy for at least two times a week will not only shrinks the large skin pores but will also lightens dark spots, and will make your skin younger and brighter.

(3) Controls Excess Oil Secretion 

Tomatoes have been found to be very effective in controlling the secretion of excessive oil from our skin pores, and this make them very benefecial for the indiviiduals who have oily skin.

This benefit of tomato is mainly because of astringent nature which not only tigthens skin pores, but also reduces the secretion of oil, and thus helps in combating acne and blemishes.

For this, take a fresh tomato and cut it in half. Now, rub the half tomato on your skin for few minutes, and let it air dry for 15 to 20 minutes. After this, rinse it off with cold water, and then pat dry your skin with a soft towel.

In addition to this, you can also add 3 to 4 tablespoons of cucumber juice to tomato juice ( fresh juice of two tomatoes), and apply the mixure on your face in a circular motion. Let it air dry for ten minutes and then rinse it off with cold water.

Repeating the same at least once a day ( especially at bed times) on a regular basis is very effective not only in reducing the excessive oil secretion but will tightens our skin pores, and will make our skin soft and supple.

(4) Good For Treating Suntan

Tomatoes have been found to be very effective in protecting our skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun.

This benefit of tomatoes is mainly because of the presence of antioxidants like Vitamin C, lycopene and other antioxidantal compounds in them.

These antioxidants fights with the free radicals of our body, stabilizes them and thus prevents them from causing oxidative damage to our skin cells. By doing so, it also protects our skin cells from th oxidative damage caused by the harmful UV rays of the sun, thereby reducing the risk of skin cancer.

They are also effective in treating suntan ( blackening or burning  of skin due to prolonged exposure to sun rays).

For this, add two large sized tomatoes and half cup of yogurt t a blender and blend it to form a smooth paste.  Now apply this paste all over the affected area ( sunburned area ) and let it air dry for 10 to 15 minutes, and then rinse it off with cold water.

Alternatively, you can mix two tablespoon of tomato juice and four tablespoons of buttermilk together, and apply it on the affected area. Let it air dry for 30 minutes, and then rinse it off with cold water.

According to a 2001 study published in the Journal of Nutrition, it was found that consuming tomatoes on a regular basis also provide protection against the ultra-violet light induced erythema.

(5) Helps In Clearing Blemishes 

Topical application of tomatoes have been found to be very effective in treating skin blemishes because of their astringent and skin-lightening properties.

For this, add two teaspoons of tomato pulp with one teaspoon of oatmeal and one teaspoon of yogurt and mix them thoroughly.  Now, gently rub this mixture on the affected area and let it air dry for 20 minutes, and then rinse it off with cold water.

Doing this for at least two times a week on a regular basis is very effective in clearning skin blemishes.

(6) Ligthens Skin Tone

Tomatoes are a natural bleaching agent and this makes them very effective for ligthening our skin tone.

For this, add three tablespoons of tomato juice, one tablespoon of lemon juice and two tablespoons of milk cream together to make a fine paste. Now, apply this face mask on your face and neck, and let it air dry for 15 minutes. After this, wash it off with cold water. For better result, do it two times a week.

Alternatively, you can mix two tablespoons of tomato juice and two tablespoons of honey together and apply the mixture on the affected area. Let it sit for ten minutes, and then rinse it off with cold water.

Regular use will make our skin soft, supple and radiant.

Also, tomatoes are a good source of vitamin C that aids the production of collagen in our body, which is an essential compund that improves skin elasticity and also keep our bones, teeth and skin tissues healthy.

(7) Helps In Skin Exfoliation 

Tomatoes are a natural exfoliating agent and this makes them very beneficial for getting rid of dead and dry skin cells.

For this, take a fresh tomato and cut it in half. Now, sprinkle some sugar powder to one piece and gently rub it on your face in circular motions.

Alternatively, you can add one tablespoon of tomato juice, two tablespoons of honey and one tablespoon of bentonite clay together and mix them thoroughly to form a fine paste.  Now, evenly spread this paste on your skin and let it air dry for 15 to 20 minutes, and then rub it off with wet fingers.

Tomatoes is beneficial not just for our health and skin, but also for our hair. It is very effective in treating oily hair, and for getting rid of the foul smell associated with the oily hair.

It has been found that the acidic nature of tomatoes helps in maintaining the pH level of the scalp, and this helps in controlling the secretion of excess oil.

For this, wash your hair thoroughly and then apply fresh tomato juice to your scalp. Let it air dry for ten minutes and then rinse it off with cold water.
