Beauty Benefits of Garlic For Skin

 

(1) Is Effective In The Treatment of Acne And Pimples

Acne is a major skin problem that affects millions of people all over the world. The exact cause of acne is unknown but it said to get propagated by the dirt, impurities and other toxic materials present in the skin pores.

It has been found that garlic is beneficial not just for our health but also for our skin as it is very effective in the treatment of garlic. This benefit of garlic is mainly due to the presence of vital nutrients like vitamins and minerals in it.

Eating garlic on a regular and moderate basis has been found to be very effective in protecting our skin cells and the body tissues from the oxidative damage, as it fights with the free radicals of our body, and stabilizes them.

In addition to the oral consumption, topical application of garlic has been found to be effective in the treatment of skin problems like acne and pimples. There are many ways, garlic can be used to treat skin problems, and some of these are

(a) Take a freshly cut garlic clove pod, and squeeze it with pressure to release some juice. Now gently rub this garlic pod on the affected area and wash off with cold water. This will help in reducing the pain and swelling of the affected area and is also good in fighting with acne.

(b) Another method of using garlic against acne is to take some freshly cut garlic cloves and squeeze them to form juice. Now add white vinegar to this juice in equal proportion and mix them thoroughly. This juice can be now applied to the affected area to get rid of the skin problems like acne.  The white vinegar present in the juice helps in maintaining the pH balance of our skin and the garlic is effective in fighting against infection.

By regulating our pH level and fighting against infections, it plays a significant role in fighting against acne and other skin problems.

(c) Not everyone is comfortable with topical application of raw garlic cloves or garlic juice on their skin. This is because of the stingy nature of garlic that causes a burning sensation when applied on the skin. If you are one of those who can’t bear the sting caused by the topical application of garlic, then garlic honey face mask is best for you.

For this, take some freshly peeled garlic cloves and crush them thoroughly to form a fine paste. Now add a half tablespoon of honey and two tablespoons of yogurt to it.  Mix all the ingredients together to form a fine paste. This mixture can be now applied to the skin as a face mask to get rid of the acne, pimples and other skin problems. The Yogurt and the honey present in the face mask also help in providing moisturization to our skin and keep it soft and supple.

If raw garlic is not available, then garlic oil or garlic powder can also be used as a substitute. However, make sure that you don’t use more than two to three drops of garlic oil and half tablespoon of garlic powder.

(d) Another method of using garlic for treating acne is by taking four to five pieces of peeled raw garlic and crushing them thoroughly to form a fine paste.  Now, boil 250 ml of water, and as soon as it comes to boiling, add crushed garlic to it.  Let the mixture boil for 30-35 minutes, while always ensuring that garlic is always submerged in the water.

When the boiling of mixture gets complete, let it cool down till the lukewarm level.

Now, this mixture can be applied on the entire skin with the help of mallet or a rolling pin. Just make sure that you apply the mixture only when it gets lukewarm. If it’s too hot, it will burn your face, and if it’s too cold, it won’t be so effective.

(2) Is Effective In The Removal of Blackhead And Whitehead

Another important beauty benefit of garlic is their ability to help in the removal of blackheads and whiteheads.

For this, crush two to three fresh garlic cloves and add one tablespoon of oatmeal, one to two drops of tea tree oil and a half teaspoon of lemon juice to it. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly and add honey to it, to form a fine paste.

Now spread a thin layer of this paste on your skin ( just make sure it is clean) and let it air dry for four to five minutes. After this wash off your face with warm water. Applying this face mask for at least thrice in a week results in a visible reduction of blackheads and whiteheads from our skin.

Also, the other ingredients like honey and yogurt present in the facemask provide nourishment and moisturization to our skin and thus helps in keeping our skin soft and supple.

Garlic is a good source of many nutrients like vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytonutrients etc. that plays an important role in keeping our skin healthy.

The antioxidants and the antioxidantal compounds present in the garlic, fights with the free radicals of our body, stabilizes them and prevents them from causing oxidative damage to our body cells. Free radicals are nothing but the unstabilized ions that gets formed during the oxidation process in our body. As these are unstabilized ions so they steal electrons from the neighboring molecules and thus cause oxidative damage to them.

For this, take some freshly squeezed juice of crushed garlic clove and add it to hot oil. Mix it thoroughly and use this hot oil for massaging.  Regular massaging will help in the noticeable reduction of stretch marks within few weeks.  If garlic juice is not available, then garlic oil can also be used as a substitute. Just make sure that you don’t add more than half teaspoon of garlic oil.
