Lemon is a citrus fruit that grows on the evergreen tree of the same name. It is native to Asia but is now cultivated in many parts of the world. Lemons are used mainly in the form of juice, but its use for cleaning and culinary purpose is also widely popular. Lemons are a good source of a number of nutrients like vitamins,minerals,antioxidant,dietary fibers etc. and this makes them very beneficial for our health. In addition to the health benefits, there are also some beauty benefits of lemon for our skin and hair, and in this article , we will know about these benefits in detail.

(1) Eliminate Blackheads
One of the most important skin benefits of lemon is their ability to eliminate blackheads. They are antibacterial and antiviral in nature, and this makes them a natural alternative against blackheads.
To lessen blackheads using lemon, take a lemon slice and rub it on your face. Make sure that there is no cut, wound or a pimple etc. on the affected area as otherwise lemon may cause extreme pain and burning sensation because of it’s acidic nature.
If you don’t like the idea of rubbing lemon slice directly on the face, then you can add a few drops of honey to lemon slice and then apply it ( lemon slice with honey on it) on your face. Keep it on your face for ten minutes and then rinse off with cold water.
(2) Whitens Teeth
Lemons are very effective when it comes to giving a natural shine to our teeth. It is a natural teeth whitening product which one could use at his/her home to get a smile as beautiful as pearls.
To use lemon for teeth whitening, take a lemon slice and carefully rub it on your teeth. Make sure that you don’t run it for a long time as otherwise, it could harm your teeth because of its acidic nature, and also avoid applying it on your gums.
It is preferred to rub the lemon slice on your teeth just for one minute. Wait for few minutes and then thoroughly rinse your mouth with warm water. Do it once a day, and you will soon start noticing the result.
You could also use a clean earbud to apply lemon juice on your teeth. Another method of using lemon for teeth whitening is, taking 1/4 teaspoon of salt or baking soda and adding few drops of lemon juice in it.
Make a thin paste and gently rub it on the stained teeth. Wait for one minute and then thoroughly rinse your mouth with warm water.
Repeat this remedy every day for one week, and notice the result. Again, it is advised to not to rub lemon on teeth for too long and avoid gums.
(3) Wonderful Foot Scrub
Lemons could be used as a wonderful foot scrub and help you get rid of all the accumulated dirt and at the same time save money ( which otherwise get spent on pedicure ).
To use lemon as a foot scrub, take two tablespoons of olive oil, two tablespoons of brown sugar, and squeeze half lemon ( fresh ) in it. Mix all the ingredients to make a thick paste and then apply it on your feet. Leave for 15 minutes and then rinse off with water, and pat dry.
This lemon mixture not only scrubs and moisturizes our feet, but also helps in eliminating dryness from our feet.

(4) Wonderful Skin Exfoliator
Lemons are antibacterial in nature and this makes them a natural skin cleanser and exfoliating agent. They are very effective in getting rid of dead and dry skin cells.
To use lemon for skin exfoliation, take 1/4 cup of yogurt, and add one tablespoon of honey and one tablespoon of lemon juice to it. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly to form a fine paste. Now, uniformly apply this paste on your clean,make-up free skin.
Let the mixture stay on your skin for ten minutes, and then rinse off with lukewarm water. Regular use will help in getting rid of dead and dry skin cells, and will also help in bringing back the natural glow of the skin.
(5) Heals Chapped lips
Lemons are good for our lips as they could be used for healing chapped lips. This benefit of lemon is because of their exfoliating nature.
To use lemon juice for healing chapped lips, take a fresh lemon slice and gently massage it on your lips at the bed time. Leave it overnight and then wash off next morning. This is very effective in healing chapped lips.
One thing to remember is to completely avoid this remedy if you have any cut or wound on your lips. This is because the acidic nature of lemon may cause a burning sensation and extreme pain in cut or wound, and worsen the situation.

Lemons are very beneficial for skin rejuvenation and make our skin flawless and radiant. This benefit of lemon is mainly due to the presence of antioxidant vitamin C in it.
This antioxidant fights with the free radicals of our body and prevents them from causing oxidative damage to our skin cells. By doing so, they minimize the risk of premature aging and provides relief from fine lines, wrinkles ,dark spots, age spots etc.
Vitamin C is also effective for the production of collagen which improves the elasticity of our skin and makes our skin smooth.
To use lemon for skin rejuvenation, cut a lemon and put some drops of honey on it. Now, gently apply it on your face,neck,hands,legs etc. Leave it for 10 minutes, and then rinse off with warm water.For better result, use this remedy once or twice a week.

(7) Cures Acne And Scars
Lemons are very effective for the treatment of acne because of their astringent nature. This benefit of lemon is mainly due to the presence of L-ascorbic acid in it.
In addition to this, the high level of vitamin C present in lemons promotes growth of healthy skin cells, and at the same time reduces the risk of fine lines, age spots, wrinkles, dark spots etc. ( by fighting with the free radicals of our body),and thus minimizes the risk of acne and scars.
Lemons are also antibacterial in nature, which means they are effective in killing the bacteria responsible for acne.
To use lemon for acne treatment, dilute some lemon juice ( with rose water or vitamin E oil ) and apply it on the affected area. Let it stay for 15 minutes and then rinse off with cold water.
You could also use undiluted lemon juice ( applied just for 5 minutes ) but I won’t advise it as you may experience a severe pain and burning sensation in your skin because of acidic nature of lemon.
Alternatively, drinking lemon juice on regular basis also helps in keeping our skin healthy and reduces the risk of acne.
(8) Reduces Stretch Marks
Lemons are very effective in providing relief from stretch marks. The acidic nature of lemon makes them very effective for shedding off dead and dry skin cells, and also for the regeneration of new skin cells.
The vitamin C present in lemon also plays an important role in keeping our skin healthy.
To use lemons for diminishing stretch marks, take a lemon slice and gently rub it on the stretch marks in a circular motion for 5 minutes. Let the juice dry, and then rinse it off with warm water. For better result, repeat the remedy twice a day.
Alternatively, you can also mix an equal amount of lemon juice and cucumber juice, and gently apply the mixture so prepared on the affected area for 5 minutes. Leave it for ten minutes and then rinse off with warm water.
Using this remedy on a regular basis helps in diminishing stretch marks. This remedy is also effective in in lightening dark elbows and knees.
(9) Lightens Freckles
Lemons are a natural bleaching agent and are very effective in lightening up freckles. The skin lightening and bleaching property of lemons lighten up freckles and even make them disappear over time.
To use lemon juice for lightening freckles, take some freshly extracted lemon juice and gently massage it on the affected areas of skin for 5 minutes. Let it air dry for ten minutes, and then rinse off with lukewarm water. For better results, follow this remedy twice a day.
Alternatively, you can also mix the juice of lemon, one tablespoon of beaten yogurt and a small amount of honey, to make a fine paste. This paste can be then applied on the affected area and dry on its own. When it gets dried completely, then rinse it off with cool water.
Using this remedy on daily basis will lighten up freckles and will also make them disappear over time.
(10) Lemon Juice For Skin Whitening
The citrus acid present in lemon makes it a natural bleaching agent and is very effective in skin brightening.
To use lemon juice for skin whitening, add two tablespoons of lemon juice and three tablespoons of water together. Mix them thoroughly, and then apply it on your face and neck. Let it air dry for 30 minutes and then wash off with cold water.
Repeating this remedy on daily basis helps in skin whitening.
For better result, you can also add one tablespoon of honey to the mixture. The Addition of honey will minimize any kind of skin irritation.
Beauty Benefits of Lemon For Hair
(1) Banishes Dandruff
Lemons are very beneficial for our hair and scalp and are very effective for eradicating dandruff and scalp problems like itchiness.
For this, simply take some lemon slices and rub them on your scalp. Let it air dry for an hour and then wash off with lukewarm water.
The strength of this remedy could be increased further by adding 4 tablespoons of vinegar to it ( Avoid this remedy if you have any cut or wound on your scalp as the acidic nature of lemon and vinegar could give rise to extreme pain and burning sensation, and thus worsen the situation).
Lemon juice is effective not only in treating dandruff and scalp itchiness but also in maintaining Ph level of skin and reducing oil secretion. Lemons are also antifungal and antibacterial in nature, and these properties of lemon play an important role in treating scalp infections.
Alternatively, you can also mix the juice of one lemon in one cup of plain yogurt. Add some coconut oil or olive to it, and mix them thoroughly. Apply this mixture on your slightly wet hair ( with more preference given to roots). Cover your hair with a shower cap, and then after 30 minutes, rinse them off with lukewarm water.
For better result, follow this remedy twice a week. Last but not the least, applying diluted lemon juice ( juice of two lemons diluted with one cup water) on shampooed hair , and then rinsing off with plain water after 5 minutes also helps in treating dandruff.
One thing to remember is that if you are using lemon remedies for treating dandruff and scalp problems, then avoid direct sun exposure as it could otherwise lighten your hair color.
(2) Lemons For Hair Conditioning
Lemons are very benefecial not only in treating dandruff and providing relief from various scalp problems, but also for adding shine to our dull hair, and bring back them to life again.
For using lemon for hair conditioning, take juice of a freshly sqeezed lemon and add half cup of yogurt and a raw egg to it. Mix them well to form a thick paste and then apply it on you scalp and hair.
Let it air dry and then wash off with water using mild shampoo. Folowing this remedy on a weekly basis will make our hair soft,shiny and thick.
